Skate sharpening: what you need to know

Hey parents, knowing how skates are sharpened it so important. Each skater will need their skates sharpened a certain way. Then they can even get custom edges based how they skate. But if your little hockey player is just starting out, there’s no need to over think skate sharpening. Just remind the person doing the sharpening that your kiddo is a beginner.

Hockey practice at home— homemade skill pad

Improve your stick handling and shooting skills at home for under $20.

Here’s what you’ll need for our version of a hockey skill pad.

Materials:

• (1) 4′x8′ sheet of Melamine Board (Think whiteboards—Home Depot, Menards, etc.)
• (1) Heavy-gauge bungee cord
• (1) Can of silicone lubricant spray (works better than wood polish/wax)
• (1) Roller hockey puck

Total cost:

• under $20

Let’s Try Hockey Event on Oct. 11

So you think hockey is cool but you’re not sure how to get started. That’s ok. Just come out to our FREE Let’s Try Hockey event on October 11 from 12pm – 2pm. Click for directions.

KIDS
Try on equipment and skate around on the ice. You’ll have tons of fun!

PARENTS
Coaches and volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions about hockey.

WHY PLAY HOCKEY?

Chalk Sauk ad campaign

The goal: increase new members by 10. Yes, just 10 new hockey players.

The big idea: chalk sauk. With the big Cow Chip Festival this weekend, we chalked the parade route to promote youth hockey to kids & parents.

The result: we’ll let you know next week after player registration.
